Amy is a self-taught abstract artist raised in the rugged beauty of Colorado and Oregon. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Print Media, she worked as a web and graphic designer in the publishing industry before launching her web design studio, SimplyFine Design, in Portland for over 15 years.
During the pandemic, she began serving as the Art Liaison for the Give Grief a Voice Project, which pairs grieving parents with professional writers and artists to create an artistic representation of their child’s life. Inspired by her work with GGaV and a desire to step away from spending her days in front of a screen, she picked up a paintbrush.
Amy loves the freedom she’s found in the spontaneous nature of abstraction and the tangible joy of working with materials, color mixing, and making marks.
Statement
My paintings reflect a celebration of bold pigments and textures. I use a vibrant palette to highlight the expressive language of color. Painting intuitively, I build up and scrape back layers to reveal hidden gems.
I am drawn to the juxtaposition between movement and stillness, combining dynamic areas with unassuming space. I’m inspired by shapes found in both natural and urban settings, and how time and weather affect them.
