- John Wehrle
The painting is a scale rendering of an imagined façade for the Lorenzo Theater in the community of San Lorenzo in unincorporated Alameda County. Elements of the design include a rendition of significant parts of the interior mural, by Anthony Heinsbergen. Anthony was responsible for many classic Deco theater interior decorations through out the US including several in the Bay Area. The interior black light mural features iridescent blue panthers, palm trees, stylized figures and a mysterious plant that could possibly be corn with tassels.
For the exterior façade painting John Wehrle chose some of the principal elements of the interior painted fantasy and arranged them in a perspective illusionistic window. This central window is framed by architectural elements that include representations of local San Lorenzo natural features. These include sycamore trees and leaves, Monarch and Tiger swallowtail butterflies and dragonflies. The finished painting is to be reproduced as a larger digital image and placed on the exterior wall of the theater.
