Artist’s Statement: The monotype is very exciting for me because of the mystery and spontaneity of the process. You cannot repeat the process or outcome exactly in another print. These monotypes were produced with several runs through the press. I later added marks using oil crayons. The loose forms and line work contrast with the solid, shape-defining over-printing. A certain tension is created that reflects my interest in relationships between opposites such as order vs. chaos, structure vs. gesture, and line vs. form.
Each piece has its own history, which is partially revealed through various layers. They are images and marks contained in layers of space and time.
