Thinking about how color influences how we remember memories. The color of sundown that I saw as the train passed through one particular rural area on the long commute from Kyoto back home in my college days comes back to me every now and then. The landscape reminded me of an intense color from an old but vivid memory.
Even though it doesn’t directly relate to any specific events that evoke strong emotions, the color alone was unforgettably captivating. It grabbed my full attention and made me drop whatever concerns I had at the moment, like a freeing of the mind. I often feel the urge to recreate that experience in my work.
