Pitcher, 8.25 inches tall. Blue transfer. Printed maker's mark for Robinson, Kirkham & Co. The "Summer" pattern features a chain of roses around the neck of the pitcher. On each side a thorny rose branch with leaves, blooms, and buds trails downward. In this foliage is a nest with three baby birds. The parent birds perch above and to the left. The outside and inside rim of the pitcher in printed with a chain of rosebuds and leaves.
The partners of Robinson, Kirkham & Co. were Joseph Robinson, Samuel Kirkham, and John William Hollinshead. In September 1872 Samuel Kirkham retired from the business and the partnership continued with Robinson & Hollinshead. It is likely that J. W. Hollinshead and S. Kirkham were also in partnership together as Hollinshead & Kirkham.
