Pitcher, 6 inches tall. Black transfer with polychrome clobbering. Printed maker's mark for James Gildea. Painted pattern number "B7541." The raised shape registry diamond indicates a registration date of 1878. This floral pattern features a delicate trailing vine of clematis flowers and leaves on one side and delicate stems of flower clusters and fruiting bodies with leaves. The neck features sprigs of five-petalled flowers and buds on slender stems.
In 1878 James Gildea joined the partnership of Bates and Walker. In 1881 Bates left the partnership and Gildea & Walker continued together. In 1885 Gildea continued the business alone. Around 1887 the business was carried on as Keeling & Co.
