Food Shelter Water: Projects by Four Texas Photographers

Part of the ongoing project Black Flight, the four photographs exhibited here were taken during a family-oriented aquatic performance at Givens Pool in East Austin. These joyful images show Black bodies suspended in space, free and liberated from the world below. This series of images is inspired by Afro-Futurism and Science Fiction–genres in which the theme of flight is frequently found. In this way, her photographs document and prioritize the experiences of Austin’s diverse communities, while advocating for an equitable future.

Parte del proyecto en curso Vuelo Negro, las cuatro fotografías que se exhiben aquí se tomaron durante una presentación acuática orientada a la familia en Givens Pool en el este de Austin. Estas alegres imágenes muestran cuerpos negros suspendidos en el espacio, libres y liberados del mundo debajo. Esta serie de imágenes está inspirada en géneros de Afro-Futurismo y Ciencia Ficción en los cuales frecuentemente se encuentra el tema del vuelo. De esta manera, sus fotografías documentan y priorizan las experiencias de las diversas comunidades de Austin, mientras que abogan por un futuro equitativo.
