This 36" x 24" oil painting on canvas by Oklahoma-based artist James Cobb features various hues of blue, green and yellows to convey the frigidity of southern winters. The snow is seemingly partially melted; the sun which now casts the shadow against the shrubs might have spent much of the day out and beaming leaving little left. The blue-green ombre in the sky could depict either sunrise or sunset, and the atmosphere of the painting is reminiscent of the quiet, cold mornings of winter. Even in the shadows, the yellows peek out from the resilient grey rabbitbrush plants while the shadows themselves are composed of varying blue shades. Lastly, the mountains in the distance give the composition a sense of scale and a sense of calm.
