This oil on canvas by artist James Cobb depicts a typical rural farm setting. The rows of freshly planted groves are accented by Cobb's use of texture via his palette knife. The various shades of green highlight the many textures and stages of the crops and are contrasted by the brown soil lining the rows between. In the background is a white farm house and surrounding structures. The light blue sky above features robust white clouds that appear to be moving quickly across the sky.

James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
