This 16" x 20" oil painting on canvas by Oklahoma-based artist James Cobb is a still-life composition aptly titled "Pomegranates and Tea." Much of the composition is painted with a cool beige, allowing the bright reds of the pomegranates to command the viewer's attention. Much of the top right quadrant of the work is painted in a burnt orange, and the silver tones throughout the French silver set are shining and reflective. Cobb's ability to create visually exciting still life works is strongly rooted in his understanding of color and application of paint to achieve a distinct textural quality - the blues on the rims of the teacups and in their shadows are superb while the thicker layers of white paint give the metals their shine.
