This 20" x 20" oil painting on canvas by Oklahoma-based artist James Cobb is a waterscape still-life. Titled "Leonard's Boat" after the artist's friend, the seascape is painted in an Impressionistic style. While the canvas is primarily painted in various blue hues, the viewer can pick out the more subdued yellows, greens and purples in both the water and sky. The orange buoys stick out in the shadow of the boat, calling the viewer's attention to the center of the canvas and creating an overall balance in the work. The atmosphere of the painting is calm and peaceful; while blues normally convey a sense of cool, Cobb's painting feels like summer.
