This framed 13.5" x 13.5" charcoal and conté drawing by Oklahoma-based artist James Cobb captures a ballerina in a seated, relaxed pose. The work is drawn on gray-toned paper and is situated behind a dark sage mat within a black frame. An academic realist, Cobb uses live models to capture his figural studies.
James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. Until recently he maintained a studio in Taos, New Mexico. His medium of choice is often charcoal and conté when drawing. He paints from life and hosts a life drawing session every week for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter including still-life, landscapes and figural works.
