This framed 13.75" x 12" charcoal, chalk and conté drawing by Oklahoma-based artist James Cobb captures a ballerina in a seated pose, stretching away from the viewer. The work is drawn on gray-toned paper and is situated behind a light, seafoam-green mat within a brownish-gold frame. With the frame, the work measures 22" x 20.25" x 1.5".
An academic realist, Cobb uses live models to capture his figural studies. James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. Until recently he maintained a studio in Taos, New Mexico. His medium of choice is often charcoal and conté when drawing. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter including still-life, landscapes and figural works.
