Fill out the form below to submit an artwork proposal for the Hammer2 Gallery Theatre Center. If you submitted in the last call and wish to submit again, please wait one cycle and only submit new work. Only professionally framed 2D artwork will be considered. The Lobby and upper hallway exhibition areas are not exclusively gallery spaces and are not public forums. Both spaces are the primary passageways for members of the public, including many children, to reach the performing and auxiliary spaces . Accordingly, we discourage artwork entries that include significant elements of sexually explicit, overtly political or religious imagery and content, graphic depiction of violence, or profanity.

Eligibility Criteria:

Must be local to the San Francisco Bay Area. Artwork must be dropped off on the day specified, no shipping. Only professionally framed 2D artwork will be considered. Please keep in mind that if your artwork is for sale, the frame and other display elements used for the artwork are to be presentable and clean, free of any damage. 

Application Requirements:

- Only submit finished artwork. Measurements must be the framed size.
- You must wait two call cycles to resubmit  after participating in a show.
- Please read all the instructions and guidelines before submitting.  
- Please only submit high resolution images


Please note: Although your work may have great potential for exhibition, the gallery schedule is planned out in advance, so there may not be immediate openings for invitational exhibits. However, we will keep your information on file in the event of a vacancy.

Rules and Terms:


  • All work must be professionally framed (excluding paintings on canvas) and wired for hanging, with sufficient gauge wire (no visible wires, saw tooth or string hangers), and D-RING FLAT HARDWARE with a 3/16” or larger opening, installed above the top third.
  • The artwork must be presentable, no scratches on the frame, loose hardware, or cracks/dents in the plexiglass. 
  • No photographs on canvas please.
  • No glass, only plexiglass will be accepted. If you are printing on metal, make sure the correct hanging hardware is on the back. 
  • All work must be labeled with the artist's name, title, medium, and sales price.
  • Large works, works over 40 lbs, or work requiring special handling must be cleared with staff. The wire hanging system used at this facility cannot accommodate works over 40 lbs.
  • Artwork can be up to 50 inches high and 50 inches wide, with a minimum of 24 inches high and 16 inches wide. If it is too small, you will be rejected. 
  • Damaged, cracked, wet or ill-prepared works, or work with unstable frames, will not be accepted. If works with unprotected surfaces or can be easily damaged, must take into consideration that they will be displayed in pathways with possible high traffic. Works on display will be insured by San Jose State University if any damage may occur.
