The Paul Wissmach Glass Company Flat Glass Artist Residency at Pittsburgh Glass Center From Pittsburgh Glass Center

The Paul Wissmach Glass Company Flat Glass Residency welcomes emerging through mid-career artists working in flat glass who are seeking dedicated time, space, and support to advance their artistic practice.  

This residency is designed for glass artists exploring innovative approaches to flat glass, including stained glass, kiln-formed glass, mosaic, or mixed-media work, and experimental techniques that push the boundaries of the medium. This residency opportunity is designed to support artists whose work demonstrates a compelling artistic vision, technical curiosity, and a desire to investigate new processes, materials, or concepts.

Recognizing that access to specialized equipment and studio facilities can be a significant barrier, this residency prioritizes artists who have limited access to flat glass studios, equipment and resources in their home communities. The program provides an opportunity to work within a fully equipped studio environment while connecting with a vibrant community of artists and makers.

To be considered for this residency award, applicants must:

        1.  Be emerging or mid-career artists
        2.  Demonstrate experience working with flat glass
        3.  Propose a project that explores new techniques, processes, or ideas and utilizes Wissmach  Glass
        4.  Express need for dedicated time and access to specialized studio facilities and equipment

Artists from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applications must include:
 
       1.  Project proposal describing the work to be explored during the residency
       2.  Brief statement describing how access to this residency would impact their practice
       3.  Artist statement
       4.  Résumé or CV (upload via pdf)
       5.  Portfolio of recent work (at least 5 images)  

Through this residency, Pittsburgh Glass Center and Paul Wissmach Glass Co. seek to support artists who are expanding the possibilities of flat glass while removing barriers to access and fostering the next generation of innovative makers. PGC and Wissmach will select one artist to be the Paul Wissmach Glass Co. Artist in residence per year.

Applications will be evaluated based on:

1.  Artistic quality and originality
2. Strength of the proposed project
3. Potential for experimentation and technical exploration
4. Demonstrated need for access to studio resources
