Exhibition Proposals at Pittsburgh Glass Corner

Pittsburgh Glass Center welcomes exhibition proposals for Pittsburgh Glass Corner Gallery, located at 5431 Penn Avenue.
 
We are accepting applications for dynamic, thoughtful, and engaging projects to exhibit in this new community-centered gallery space. We welcome proposals from all disciplines, but have preference toward exhibiting glass work or proposals that include community engagement. The Corner Gallery space is flexible and can support installations, performance, wall-mounted work, and works on pedestals.

Submissions must be received two months in advance of proposed exhibition dates. 

Schedule of Exhibition Opportunities:
Exhibitions must be open to view during a First Friday Penn Ave. Gallery Crawl. Exhibitions can be on view for up to 3 months. Official timelines with install and de-install timing will be coordinated with accepted proposals. 

Eligibility Criteria:

This opportunity is open primarily to regional artists, curators, collectives, and community members. Single artists may submit a proposal for a solo show; or a curator or collective can submit a proposal for a group show. Artists at all career levels are welcome to apply.

Submission Requirements
Proposals should include the following attachments: 
  • Exhibition Checklist with Photos 
    • Inventory checklist along with images of artwork intended to be on view. If artwork is not yet produced this should include images that are representative examples of what will be on view. 
    • Artwork Archive will ask you for these photos first. Please upload 2-10 images with descriptions.
  • Preferred Exhibition Dates 
    • Please suggest the length of time you’d like the exhibition to be on view. Dates should include one first Friday of the month to be a part of the Penn Ave Gallery crawl. 
  • Preferred Gallery Space Rental
    • Please check out the pricing and space information below.
  • Project Description and relevant Artist Statements 
    • You will need to upload this as a pdf
    • This should tell us what you want to do, who will all be exhibiting, with a general description of theme, work, and vision for show and include and programming ideas for run of show if applicable.  
  • Curatorial Plan 
    • You will need to upload this as a pdf
    • We recommend you make use of our gallery floor plan and include a layout plan in the proposal indicating which galleries will be in use. This should also give us a sense of scale and how many works will be on view. If you would like to see the space in person, please don't hesitate to reach out!
    • Plan should include any relevant technical requirements and installation considerations, such as the number of and sizes of pedestals and electrical needs if any.

Exhibition Spaces and Pricing Outline
Pittsburgh Glass Center’s newest gallery and community space is located on the first floor of 5431 Penn Avenue.  Parking is available on the street or at Pittsburgh Glass Center located at 5472 Penn Avenue (~3 min walk) The Corner gallery is an  open space with 3 gallery areas (Window gallery, Middle gallery, and Long gallery) that can be used as individual gallery spaces or in combination. Please refer to FLOOR PLAN for more detailed measurements and layouts and outline which gallery or combination of galleries in your exhibition proposal. 

  • Long Gallery:  $250 per month 
    • 12’x30’ 360 sq ft along the main entrance wall back towards the bathroom. 
  • Window Gallery:  $250 per month 
    • 13’x13’ 169 sq ft  window to end of sidewall/ first set of pillars
  • Middle Gallery: $200 per month
    • 13’x18’ 234 sq ft moving back towards the kitchen from the window past the last pillars 
      Limited wall space 
  • Middle Gallery + Window Gallery = Extended Window Gallery:  $400 per month
    • additional 13’x18’ 234 sq ft moving back towards the kitchen from the window past the last pillars (Includes use of Window Gallery)
      Limited wall space 
  • Use of all three Gallery spaces: $650 per month 
Additional Fees and deposits:
$150 security deposit required. Deposit returned when gallery is de-installed and returned to original condition upon agreed upon date. 

If price is prohibitive to your exhibition application, please include this in your project description for committee consideration.



While Exhibiting at The Corner:

Pittsburgh Glass Center is responsible for the following-
  • Marketing support, including promoting exhibition to PGCs mailing list and other social media promotion. 
  • Standard white gallery paint and track lighting with adjustable cans. 
  • Gallery de-install kit with materials to patch walls if required. 
  • Insuring artwork through Pittsburgh Glass Center while on display. PGC cannot be held liable for lost or damaged works during incoming/outgoing shipping.
Applicants/artists are responsible for the following-
  • Staffing gallery space during First Friday Penn Ave. gallery crawl. 
  • All production costs including signage, gallery labels, posters, postcards if desired.
  • Opening Reception and other programmatic expenses unless agreed upon by Pittsburgh Glass Center in advance. 
  • Shipping artwork if applicable and insuring artwork during shipping.
  • Handling installation and de-installation of exhibition, including adjusting lighting as desired.  All work must be de-installed within 5 days following the exhibition closing date. 
  • Returning the gallery to its original condition after de-installation, which includes patching, and sanding any holes made in gallery walls and repainting walls. 
  • Accepted applicants may have the opportunity to host events in conjunction with the exhibition such as artist talks, panels, workshops, etc. with approval of PGC.
