The SAVAGE Emerging Artist Competition is a premier global platform dedicated to discovering and elevating exceptional emerging artists from the African diaspora. Presented by Art Melanated, the competition celebrates bold creative voices through cash awards, exhibition opportunities, and meaningful career-building recognition, while championing the next generation of artists shaping the future of contemporary art.
Building on a successful inaugural competition, SAVAGE returns with an even broader global call for exceptional emerging artists from the African diaspora. A distinguished international jury of collectors, curators, artists, and museum leaders will select this year's finalists based on artistic merit, technical excellence, originality, and creative vision. Selected artists will be featured in the SAVAGE Exhibition and receive the opportunity to present their work before an engaged audience of collectors, arts professionals, institutions, and cultural organizations committed to discovering new talent.

This year's theme, Unlimited: What Becomes Possible When You Are Truly Free, celebrates the boundless nature of creativity and human potential. Artists are invited to think beyond convention and create work that challenges expectations, expands perspectives, and redefines what is possible.

Honoring Augusta Savage
The competition is named in honor of Augusta Savage, the pioneering sculptor, educator, and visionary whose unwavering commitment to supporting Black artists helped transform American art. In 1939, she founded the Salon of Contemporary Negro Art in Harlem, becoming the first Black American woman to establish and operate an art gallery dedicated to exhibiting the work of Black artists.
Savage believed that extraordinary talent deserved opportunity. Through her art, mentorship, and advocacy, she opened doors for generations of artists whose voices had too often been overlooked, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to inspire creatives around the world.
Today, the SAVAGE Emerging Artist Competition proudly carries that legacy forward by identifying, celebrating, and investing in exceptional emerging artists from the African diaspora. Like its namesake, the competition exists to create pathways, expand visibility, and ensure that bold artistic voices are seen, supported, and celebrated on a global stage.
