Capture explores the moments of human existence that stay with us...emotion, memory, experience, and belief...and how they shape us from the inside out. It is a material expression of what I think of as our internal architecture, using line, color, texture, gesture, and fabric to give physical form to what we carry within us.
Developed during my August 2026 residency at the Torrance Art Museum, Capture is the first painting in the series The Architecture of Becoming and was the first painting in which I began incorporating strips of fiber that extend from and hang below the painted surface. Its large scale draws the viewer in, while the familiar materials and gestures create a sense of intimacy. This was an important experimental step in my practice, allowing the physical materials to become part of the space around the painting rather than remaining contained within its edges.
