This piece was crafted using four layers of split-fountain pressure printing (hand-drawn and cut stencils) to create the background/landscape followed by an additional five layers of split-fountain text using handset wood and metal type. In this series, each layer subtly shifts in hue, opacity, and intensity to create a collaged landscape that mimics the feeling of driving through the prairie of the Midwest at different times of the day. The text nods to the heroic nature and mythos of the landscape while also acknowledging the complicated and problematic nature of that mythos.
