William Kentridge Benefit Edition 2025 from Print Center New York

In celebration of our 25th anniversary, Kentridge has created two new benefit editions, Fourth of July and Joan (2025), exclusively to support Print Center New York and the arts in South Africa. In these works, dynamic figurative forms, torn and collaged paper, and historical source material mix the past and the present.

Kentridge created these striking red and yellow figurative abstractions from colored and torn pages of an 1828 Italian accounting journal, while he derived the collaged background images from The Illustrated London News, July 22, 1876, including scenes from a circus and U.S. centennial celebration, and an engraving of Joan of Arc by the Royal Academician Sir John Gilbert. Kentridge created both prints in collaboration with his longtime printer Mark Attwood of The Artists’ Press in White River, South Africa. 

Immense gratitude to William Kentridge and Mark Attwood, The Artists’ Press, for their generosity. Half of the proceeds from the sale of these works will be donated back to South Africa to The Centre for the Less Good Idea in Johannesburg, an incubator space founded by Kentridge in 2016 to create and support experimental, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary arts projects.
