Early Works
- Lutz Hornischer
Most of my early sculptures were figurative. I took the wood and made something out of it. But over time, I discovered that the wood with its unique grain, colors and imperfections, has a story to tell that comes more to life in abstract work. So I started experimenting and having the wood guide me through the process, resulting in more flowing and nature-inspired shapes in my work. Even the colors are 100% driven by the wood. I don't use stains, only linseed oil to reveal and strengthen the natural colors of the wood.
However, sometimes the wood tells me to work figurative, like the big melting chocolate bar I made (the wood was already flowing) and Tango (thin wood stripes I found).
