Juxtapositions of Bull is a series of artwork that combines the images of people falling, the reflections of my travels in Nepal and the visual expression of dealing with our times.
Bull springs from Powell’s original drawings of people falling from a mechanical bull, a metaphor rich with tension, uncertainty, and vulnerability. Capturing the raw expressions of those in mid-fall, the artist channels a sense of helplessness that resonates powerfully in today's world. These artworks evolve into intricate collages layered not only with imagery but also with emotional weight.
During travels in Nepal, Powell encountered the powerful Hindu Gods and Goddesses whose symbolic meanings spoke of many expressions. This infused into her work with deeper significance. Particularly inspiring was Kaal Bhairav, the formidable Lord of Time and Death, known for destroying ego, banishing negative energies, removing obstacles, and maintaining cosmic order. This presence weaves through the series, creating a visual language where contemporary experience meets ancient mythology.
