As my practice over the last 20 years has sought to expand a set of techniques and practices at the intersection of painting, collage and photography, the fundamental act of collage--gluing image fragments onto one another--remains at the core of what I do.
The works included here often begin as scraps, experiments, or proofs from other projects. I tend to obsessively gather, sift and organize these materials in hopes that they will find new life in other works down the road. At regular intervals, my studio practice needs a refresh and I use the act of direct collaging to not only generate new works but also to dislodge new compositions, surprising combinations, or unconscious forms. There's a reason why collage was at the center of the surrealist movement, it offers an opportunity to improvise and discover new forms that a more conscious process often struggles to unearth.
I've also included printed works in this portfolio, including screen prints from recent exhibitions and residencies.
