Arboretum Autumn Colours by Janet Jardine Image: Down by Cootes Paradise in the Royal Botanical Gardens' Arboretum - along the trails. The leaves were just starting to turn, with some of the yellow-greens just glowing when the sun shone through. Painted en plein air; as the light changed, the colours in the background popped a bit and the shapes and colours of the scene verged on abstraction. I did not quite get the effect I was aiming for, so Once back in the studio, the colours seemed to sink into the canvas (comparing original photo with the actual painting), so took liberties with colour and line and memory, back in the studio.
