Slapton Sands, Devon is best known today as the location of Exercise Tiger, the tragic D-Day rehearsal of April 1944 in which 749 American servicemen lost their lives. Although this painting is a peaceful coastal study rather than a historical work, it depicts one of Britain's most significant wartime landscapes.
Quite a moody picture of Slapton Sands. I picked it up in a junk shop in Devon. If you know the artist then do let me know.
