As the title suggests this drawing embodies courage.
The determination to make drawings when the world wants to pigeon hole you as a sculptor, the courage to take the path less travelled; as an artist, as a leader of a regional creative community; and the resolve to live your life without fear and intimidation.
I found myself on residency in Bhutan, drawing with the energy of a person possessed! Marks were made using unconventional brushes, and layers built with materials unique to place. The Bhutanese mud colour and uneven nettle fibre have a raw earthiness that immediately described my sense of self. These common paint materials; mud colour and distemper, used to paint houses and temples; gave marks I made and the drawings I constructed a spiritual depth alongside a connection to land.
This drawing describes seeking a path forwards. An abstract path, in a linear world; it relies on the resolution to value courage.
