This is one of the few works in the collection of an historical nature. We (Kevin Miller and Hal Stringer) first saw paintings by Franz Josef Bolinger (1903 – 1986) at the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum or Art here at MOAS and began looking for examples of Bolinger’s work to purchase. This painting is a great example of a Florida scene by a Florida artist. The image appears to be of a spring or shallow stream that could be found anywhere in the state. The composition of the painting makes the viewer feel as if he/she is standing in the shallow water under the shade of a cooling tree canopy.
