About Rural Canadian Artist Crystal Beshara
“Growing up on a farm deeply influenced my lens on the world. As a third-generation artist on both sides of my family, painting and drawing were part of everyday life. Today, my work serves as a contemplative exploration of our relationship to an ever-changing rural landscape. Blending realism and expressionism, I work in both oil and watercolour to record a way of life that is slowly disappearing—documenting the homesteads, animals, and agriculture that define our heritage."
With more than 25 years of experience as a professional artist and educator, Beshara’s work is rooted in tradition and embodies the intersection of realism and expressionism. Whether using delicate watercolor glazes to illustrate botanical subjects or employing bold, gestural strokes in oil—incorporating splattering, scraping, and tools rich with history—she strives to evoke the fleeting qualities of nostalgia, resilience, desire, loss, and love.
Beyond her studio practice, Beshara is recognized internationally as an arts educator. She has been invited to lead workshops across Greece, Italy, France, England, Ireland, the United States, and Canada. Crystal’s oils and watercolours have been featured in American Art Collector, Pleinaire Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, Canadian Cowboy Magazine, Canadian Cattleman and International Artist Magazine .
She has exhibited alongside prominent North American wildlife painters including Robert Bateman, John Seerey Lester, Greg Beecham, Kathy Ellem, and Theresa Elliot. Beshara has also studied with esteemed artists such as Jill Soukup, Mort Solberg, and James Coe. She graduated with honours and holds a BFA in Studio Art along with a Botanical Illustration Diploma from the Society of Botanical Artists (UK).
Crystal is frequently invited to serve as an educator, guest speaker, juror, and art critic for various art societies and exhibitions both nationally and internationally. She resides in L’Orignal Ontario.
