"I was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and moved to Los Angeles in 1997, fulfilling a long-held California dream. I worked in VFX and got heavily into piano and making electronic music. I also focused heavily on photography for a number of years until I started painting seriously in 2015. Starting with some random geometric sketches on paper during a rough time between work and love and all that. Almost as a subconscious activity to relieve stress.
I have plenty of struggles related to art and whether I’m happy with my work or whether I’m putting in enough work and where it’s all going. But challenges come with being alive, with making art, and with everything that’s worth anything—as most of us learn the hard way. The key is remembering that those times do create opportunities to learn. The science is real. Aside from that, I just ride the wave and trust as best I can."
