La Sangre Se Hincha
Repurposed burlap, traffic paint
"Walt Whitman’s poem ‘I Sing the Body Electric’ celebrates the human body and spirit, challenging the societal norms and conventional views of his time. His poem exalts the physical body, presenting it as sacred and equal in all individuals, regardless of race, gender, or social status—a radical idea in the mid-19th century.
Inspired by Whitman’s words, particularly the lines, ‘Within there runs blood, the same old blood! the same red-running blood! There swells and jets a heart, there all passions, desires, reachings, aspirations,’ I created the sculpture ‘La Sangre se Hincha/The Blood Flows.’
Using repurposed materials—burlap and upcycled paint—I aimed to convey the belief that all bodies, regardless of status, are worthy of celebration. This artwork, made from humble, reclaimed materials, emphasizes the inherent value and dignity of all human forms.”
