Digital collage of Soviet-era apartment buildings
"Using layering and collage to translate the palimpsest of my immigrant brain into a visual landscape, I am taking my own memories, photographs taken by my ancestors, and processing these through analog and digital tracings/layerings/rerememberings.
As a lighting designer, I consider the entire dimensional space the body exists in - both the body of the performer and that of the spectator. I aim to bring this awareness to my solo artwork as well, immersing the viewer through at least one sensory element at a time. I think of my pieces as still frames along a timeline, and can imagine the versions that they become before and after the moment of me processing them. I dream of people being able to experience the work in all of its stages of existence."
