Amay Kataria is a new media artist known for his innovative and thought-provoking media interventions. With a background in computer engineering and a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Kataria is dedicated to creating cutting-edge immersive experiences that combine art, design, and technology. He uses custom industrial software to transform existing media infrastructures into interactive installations and performances that captivate audiences. His work draws inspiration from Robert Rauschenberg's 'Open Score,' a performative piece presented during 9 Evenings: Theater & Engineering in 1966, which involved Frank Stella playing tennis with wired rackets that generated a score and controlled the lights around the Armory. Kataria also incorporates elements of movement and sound culture, blending them with advanced technology to create systems that evoke warmth, empathy, and joy for the audience.
His work has been exhibited at major festivals and exhibitions worldwide, including Vector Festival, Hyde Park Art Center, Ars Electronica, Electromuseum, and others. He has also been invited to prestigious residencies at institutions such as Art Center Nabi, AIR Sandnes, and Mana Contemporary, where he pushes the boundaries of new media art.
