Yvonne East is an artist and educator specialising in drawing and painting. Her work is centred around the human figure, from producing highly refined and empathetic portraits to award winning drawing and multimedia installations. East’s work is held in collections of the National Trust of Australia, University of South Australia, and the National Portrait Gallery of Australia with her 2018 portrait of the Honourable Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, Susan Kiefel AC. A consistent finalist in notable Australia art prizes such as the Archibald, Doug Moran and Dobell Drawing Prize, East has won several awards including the 2015 AGNSW Robert Le Gay Brereton Prize, 2014 Tim Olsen Drawing Prize and the 2012 Country Arts SA Breaking Ground Award.
A passionate educator, East currently lectures at the University of New South Wales and over the last decade has conducted numerous workshops and mentorships for schools, community groups, and government clients. A recent graduate of psychology, East endeavours to communicate the value of arts education and to celebrate Australian art and artists. East continues to be engaged for art prize judging appointments and presented and produced a weekly community radio arts program from 2009 to 2013.
