Xan Blood Walker
Emeryville, CA
My art lives where the city cracks. It’s photography, memory, or a dream with teeth. I shoot what other people walk past. Grit. Quiet rage. Ghosts in daylight.
MessageXan Walker lives and works in Emeryville, CA in a small house that doubles as a studio. She was born in Seattle in a family that included avid gardening, she grew up in the urban 80's punk scened of L.A. and S.F. and then embarked on a journey of recovery. She got degrees in Painting and Printmaking at the University of Washington. All of these influences appear in her art, which she likes to think of as "Rebel Magick".
Statement
I’m a photographer based in the Bay Area, working at the intersection of urban grit and emotional resonance. My work often blurs the line between photography and painting, capturing scenes that feel as much remembered as observed. Street corners, worn walls, quiet faces, odd light — these are my raw materials. But it’s not really about the setting; it’s about the feeling.
People have called my work spiritual, painterly, even cinematic. I’d call it honest. I’m drawn to what most people overlook — the fleeting, the broken, the strange kind of beauty that emerges from contrast. There’s a stillness underneath the chaos of the city, and I try to catch it before it disappears.
I work primarily in urban spaces, often at night or during transitional times of day. I’m interested in how environment reflects emotional states — and how vulnerability can be revealed in shadows, angles, and the spaces between people.
My photography isn’t always comfortable, but it’s always real. And if you sit with it, it might tell you something unexpected.
