Statement

At the center of Omar Wiseman’s practice is the ongoing investigation and reflection on identity in the midst of an ever-changing, chaotic world. Working across a range of mediums—most often oil, acrylic, and collage—Wiseman seeks to capture the energy of a moment in flux. His painting process often begins with on-site sketches that are later “sampled,” sometimes years later, to form a patchwork of emotional landscapes spanning time and space. Through surreal caricature and abstraction, he layers these fragments of lived experience directly onto the canvas, building a personal mythology around memory and perception. His work examines the tensions of isolation and anxiety within modern life, flipping through different temporal moments to mirror the fractured nature of being today. While at times disorienting, Wiseman recontextualizes the ambiguity of the present by grounding the familiar in color, form, and iconography—ultimately drawing upon hope and joy for what lies ahead.
