Artist statement
There came a moment at the end of last year when I reached a point where I could no longer see a reason to continue living. After some serious medical-intervention I was hospitalised for three weeks. This drawing is about fragments of that time that I remember; city scapes, a hospital gown and strange amorphous statues, held tenuously together with a broken line like sutures. Fundamentally, though this work is about when I found myself staring into the darkness, I found there were two options; to lean forward and fall or to turn and feel the gentle caress of the light and my own quiet courage. To allow the light in is the bravest thing.
