To many Native American tribes, the eagle is considered one of the most sacred animals, and it is forbidden to harm one. Receiving an eagle feather for a headdress or as a gift is considered one of the highest honors one can receive, and receiving one is not to be considered lightly.
Flying the highest of all birds, the eagle is considered to have the strongest connection with the Great Spirit, and often embodies our ancestors, bringing us messages of wisdom, strength, courage, and hope. Our ancestors come to us in many ways, and even when we can not see them, they are always there guiding us along our journeys.
We only must be open to the great knowledge of our ancestors and the Great Spirit, and we always must honor them by listening and receiving their wisdom, in our actions, and in our treatment of and by showing kindness towards all our brothers and sisters of all creatures and our great EarthMother. Without our spirit guides, we are lost, often unable to see the path right before us, the one which we are to follow. But, with them, we receive many blessings, even when we may not immediately recognize them, because they guide us from harm into safety, towards the path we are meant to travel, and bring us hope to continue on and reach our goals and dreams.
