Chavatel’s sculptures are similar to the works of Abstract Expressionists David Smith and Ibram Lassaw. Rather than using the traditional reductive process for his metal sculptures, he used an assemblage technique, an additive process layering materials on top of one another to form the finished product. He also experimented in cast bronze, carved marble and wood.

A gift of Mrs. Barbara P. Chavatel, January (2010)
