W.S. Cranmore

How to begin

W.S. Cranmore embarks on the next phases of art and music.

How to begin

With the “Modern Debris” solo exhibition coming to its conclusion at the the day of July, it seemed to me that I was closing this chapter and ready to start the next. The art show exhibits about 40 of my works from almost my entire career to date, 2012-2022. It’s the perfect time to stop, reflect, say thank you, and start again.

how to begin this new phase though. As I thought about it, I was certain that music would play a major role in the artworks to come. It’s more important than ever in my art and needs to be really explored. I was also certain that many of the traits and habits of my previous works need to rest. Geometric shapes, rigid lines, bare color fields, etc. I’m very proud of those works but I’ve said enough in that style.

with all things considered, what’s really standing out to me is a couple art series. Plans are coming together for each and the more I think about them, them more intrigued I am.

The Ambient Paintings: Inspired by photographs and digital artworks I’ve created over the years, each painting in this series will be an interpretation of a specific digital artwork. In addition, each piece will also be created to a specific Ambient music artist or album, which will really add to the atmosphere of the work. I predict that visually, colors will be deeper. These will be abstract works, yet I don’t know if that would be the best word to use. That’s why I’m calling them the ambient paintings.

Pivotal Albums: Just a working title at the moment. This is another series combining art and music. With this one, however, the series is centered around music instead of just being influenced by it. Pivotal albums will probably be a ten painting series where each piece is influenced by and created to an album that had a profound impact on my life in one way or another. The kind of albums that are just as profound today as the day you first heard it. I’m pretty sure that visually, these paintings will be energized, bold, and eye catching.

I’m already in prep for both of these series and will be making posts on social media as they progress. I can confirm right now that one of these series will go to gallery in 2024. Let’s see where this new phase goes to, I’m looking forward to the process.
