Published by Le Soleil Noir, Paris
his etching comes from "Carré blanc," a limited-edition artist’s book created in collaboration with Surrealist poet Joyce Mansour (1928-1986). Alechinsky’s imagery in Carré blanc does not illustrate the poetry in a literal sense, but instead mirrors its emotional and symbolic intensity. This limited edition artist’s book was not widely distributed, but whithin the Surrealists circles Mansour’s poetry was a force in the movement—a fearless exploration of feminine rage, longing and liberation.
This impression is one of only 25 artist’s proofs, produced outside the numbered edition, underscoring its rarity. The hand-painted yellow accent adds a singular quality to each print, reinforcing the individuality of these collaborative works.
