  • Artist: Pierre Alechinsky (Belgian, b. 1927)

Pierre Alecinsky (1927) is a Belgian artist born in Brussels. After studying book illustration and typography at École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et des Arts Décoratifs in Brussels from 1944-1948. His work combines painting, printmaking, and drawing often using ink and bright acrylic with strong linear mark-making, bordered compositions and later influenced by Japanese calligraphy. Since the late 1940s, Alechinsky has produced many paintings, prints, drawings and illustrated books that explore spontaneity, moment and subconscious. His is held in major collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Tate in London and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Belgium.
