Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A marvelous pottery vessel exhibiting a globular body, a corseted neck, and a flared and folded rim, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. The exterior of the ancient vessel boasts intricate decoration with a series of incised vertical striations enveloping the body, while the rim showcases an incised horizontal register of zigzag motif flanked above and below by vertical stripes and embellished by areas of applied orange slip.
