Sue NortonKent, also referred to as "The Woman behind the Women", has developed a distinctive, signature style with her images of graceful, medieval looking, long-necked ladies. NortonKent is a self-taught artist, who began the series of women in 1996 when she was living in Denver. In 1997 she relocated to Hot Springs Arkansas with the encouragement of an artist friend who had made the move before her.
Discouraged by art professors in college, NortonKent earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology and a Master of Arts degree in sociology from Kent State University.
Before becoming a full-time artist in 1985, NortonKent had been a rehabilitation counselor and a pet store owner.
Working in acrylic, mixed media or oils NortonKent's paintings are done in various sizes from miniature to large. The paintings are done on stretched canvas except for the miniatures which are done on canvas board.
NortonKent's work is gaining national recognition for its unique qualities and vivid imagery. The Hot Springs Convention Center has added one of NortonKent's paintings to its permanent collection. Collectors, both private and corporate, from New York to California have purchased NortonKent's work.
