Virginia Shepley is an abstract painter using line drawing and biomorphic forms as a visual representation of fundamental spiritual ideas. Virginia received her Masters of Fine Art in Painting from John F. Kennedy University’s Arts and Consciousness Program in 2001. Inspired by eastern philosophies, she explores unity and duality on paper as a parallel to human experience; reflecting our struggle to find a place of balance. Over the last decade, her work explores the connections and borderlines between physical reality and the invisible.
Shepley’s work has been shown in solo and group shows in galleries in California and North Carolina. Her drawings and paintings are in private collections around the world. She has been featured in several publications including All She Makes, Carolina Muse and the American Scholar. Statement
My practice is a visual exploration of the laws of nature, the spiritual and the supernatural. Through a meditative process of drawing, my work develops the possibilities and the intersections between space and line. I strive to reconcile fundamental opposites found in the physical world. Unity and duality are regular subjects in my work, paralleling the human experience and struggle to find a place of balance.
