Sensory sculptures and environments made from reclaimed materials imbued with notions of luck, chance, and magical thinking.
MessageVirginia Fleck makes sensory objects and environments from reclaimed materials imbued with notions of luck, chance, and magical thinking. Fleck’s artworks have a baroque upcycled aesthetic that transcends the utility of the materials; sparkling chains of can-tabs become oversized chandeliers that generate soothing moiré patterns, and spherical bingo cages are retooled into hand-cranked sound baths, each with a unique sonic signature. Our senses provide the most recognizable sense of self, and Fleck’s intricately crafted environments explore embodied experience as a way to mitigate the anxiety of uncertainty.
Fleck’s work has been exhibited at Art on Paper 2015 in NYC, Art Forum Berlin, Pulse Miami and New York, and Arte Fiera in Bologna, Italy. Her work appears in many prestigious collections including Facebook Austin TX, the permanent collection the United States Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda and the Marino Golinelli collection in Bologna, Italy. Ms. Fleck’s work has been written about and reviewed on the web and in numerous paper publications including American Craft Magazine, Public Art Review, Sculpture Magazine, Metropolitan Home, Western Interiors and Design, Glasstire, Apartment Therapy.
