In Plain Sight
This ongoing series explores the tension between visibility and adaptation through the lens of botanical mimicry and human identity. Drawing inspiration from orchids, masters of disguise, deception, and survival. I reflect on the emotional and psychological strategies we use to navigate the world, especially as neurodivergent women.
Each painting begins with botanical accuracy but moves beyond it. These orchids have modified their appearance to get what they need. These contrasts echo our own experiences with masking, people-pleasing, and the pressure to fit in.
In Plain Sight is not about hiding. It’s about survival, self-expression, and the struggle of becoming visible on your own terms. These works ask: What parts of ourselves do we show, and what do we conceal to be accepted, loved, or safe?
This series speaks to those who have felt “too much,” “too sensitive,” or “too different.” Through layers of oil paint and intricate detail, I invite viewers to see the beauty, and the strength, in complexity.
Inspired by orchids and old masters, I create oil paintings that celebrate adaptation and individuality.
