Statement
I create botanical paintings that explore identity, visibility, and the many ways
we adapt to survive. My current work focuses on orchids, complex organisms that have evolved extraordinary
strategies to thrive. This biological performance, this act of becoming what is needed to be seen, resonates deeply
with my own experience.
As a neurodivergent woman, I’ve spent much of my life adapting to systems
that weren’t designed for me. I learned to observe, to imitate, to mask. That
double reality, is something I return to again and again in my work.
While my practice is rooted in traditional botanical techniques, I don’t see
myself as a documentarian. I’m interested in the emotional and symbolic
weight that plants can carry.
I work in both oil and watercolor, depending on the piece.
It’s a slow, meditative process that reflects the kind of attention I want to offer
my subjects.
I also use archival-quality materials, because I believe in honoring
the time, the craft, and the life that each painting contains. I want these works
to last for generations, so that the message can be past on.
Whether I’m painting a plant or a person, I’m ultimately interested in what lies
beneath the surface, in the stories of endurance, self-invention, and the
beauty of being different in a world that often demands sameness.
Inspired by orchids and old masters, I create oil paintings that celebrate adaptation and individuality.
My works are available directly for collectors and interior designers. See what’s available or contact me to discuss a project.
