A continuance of an attempt to avoid an obvious ground, as in Groundless I. Still only using five colors. The shapes are strongly influenced by the drawing of intersecting circles. Hence, helping to make the shapes surprising. Quasi-spontaneous shapes because I am dependent on the intersecting circles (what I call axioms) of the drawings to make the shapes. When I look at this painting I look for shapes, for instance a green “V.” I then look for a ground for that shape. Hopefully, the nearest thing to a ground is another shape, or series of shapes. Blue naturally recedes, and hence has a tendency to become ground. I just love the color combination, so there is that issue, and next month I hope to avoid blue.
