A continuance of an attempt to avoid an obvious ground, as in Groundless I, and Figure-Ground Riff. Still only using five colors. I am dependent on the intersecting circles (what I call axioms) of the drawings to make the shapes. This helps to make the shapes surprising. Quasi-spontaneous shapes. When I look at this painting I look for shapes, for instance a green “V.” I then look for a ground for that shape. Hopefully, the nearest thing to a ground is another shape, or series of shapes. I have replace the blue of Figure-Ground Riff, with black. A somewhat more abrasive painting.
