Vicky Gooch

“If eyes are a window to the soul, then art is a window between souls”

Vicky Gooch paints fine art oil paintings using techniques of the old masters and impressionists. She uses high quality materials to create custom heirloom quality portraits and paintings. She paints a variety subjects, learning the most from direct observation. Vicky finds painting the human form to be the most rewarding. She enjoys the challenge of discovering the traits that make each person unique and bringing them to life through the art of painting.

Even though creating artwork can be a solitary activity, Vicky believes that the best part of creating artwork is the opportunity to make a connection with other people. She enjoys collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life in a work of art.

Artist Statement

I create representational portrait paintings from life and photographs. I choose my subjects and my style because it allows for a connection between my subject, my viewers and me.

My inspirational quote is “If eyes are a window to the soul, then art is a window between souls”. My artwork is full of people doing what people do in the important or mundane times of their lives. My satisfaction comes from being able to depict something in their moments that we can all understand. Tears from a widow, the beaming face of a mom or a lady on a beach where I’m painting shouting that she needs to “buy that painting” all tell me that I got it right.

I look to the masters from Rembrandt and John Singer Sargent to Norman Rockwell and a wealth of living artists to provide substance for my improvement. Not just for painting style but also their focus on the human condition, from reverent to whimsical.

My favorite art captures the mood and character of a subject or a scene and that’s what I’m trying to do whenever I paint.
